Review on Twisted Stitches: Unconventional Cross Stitch and Embroidery, 30 Corrupt Designs Revealed by Kelsey Brown

Not So Cute Cross Stitch Patterns

Like the author, I consider myself an unconventional cross stitcher. I love crafts and the art of sewing, but I find most cross stitch patterns (cute animals, samplers, etc.) dated and boring. I would be surprised if there was even a book in the world where each pattern spoke to a person. I've done several projects so far (including Calaveras [sugar skulls], tromp l'oeil style skull and water scenes, vampire "Bite Me" theme) and I plan to do more when I have other projects (particularly burlesque zombies). The book also includes a good tutorial for those who are totally new to cross stitching. I would recommend this book to my smart friends who love different patterns. I showed the book to my grandma (76) and she thought it was a Halloween themed book (probably because of the skull and vampire patterns).
