Expensive for what it is used for

So my wife and I moved into this house which also needed a coat of paint so I went to town. I have completed the whole picture except for the corridor leading upstairs. I tried everything to tape and trim the ceiling and thought WHAT?! So I went online and looked up how to do that. I ordered this thing for $158 and puffed up my chest and told my mom I took care of everything. By the way, I got it a day early and hopped over to him to finish the painting. I installed it and put my ladder and Holy Mother of God on it! It barely fits on the step and the ladder will slope down the stairs no matter how it is oriented. My wife wanted to hold a ladder and a piece of equipment, for which I commend her. I told her to get out of the way because if that happened I would crush her and we would both die at the bottom of the paint covered steps. Stand next to the phone with 911 dialed and your finger on the send button. Seriously, I think by the time the ambulance comes I'll be dead because I live way out of town. I have no problem buying tools to make my job easier, I'm a retired mechanic, I'm 30+. years, so the purchase of the tool lies in my wheelhouse. I think this thing is a little to spend around $158. I would feel a lot more confident doing something in 2x12, but now I have it. If you're in East Tennessee and need one, I'll rent it to you for $25 a day and you'll save over $150. I live and study. I'd say it worked and I don't have any broken bones, but it was pretty darn patchy. I climbed the 300-foot wind turbine-powered straight staircases, Ariel's numerous elevators, and work platforms with little to no fear, although I would say it was uncomfortable. I was 12 feet up on those uneven stairs shaking like a dog that's pissed on a peach pit. It's your decision to buy or not, personally I don't think it costs more than $75. Especially in this case, take care of yourself.
