Review on XPMP3H1 Portable Satellite Discontinued Manufacturer by Frank Mayes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

What a big little power plant!

I used to have an XM Skydock that I used with an iPhone that allowed me to go from car to car with an XM radio subscription. After 3 years of operation, Skydock is pretty run down and in danger of falling apart. I bought an XM XPMP3HI and paid the XM commission to switch my service and I was glad I did because there is so much more to this little gem than the Skydock. First, my Skydock could not fit in my shirt pocket and be used by my husband as it is a device. And while it's fairly easy to lose a satellite signal (if you've got it in your shirt pocket and you're doing business and moving outside) it works well if you're, say, sitting in a chair and have a clear and unobstructed view south, where XM -Service is available satellite in southern hemisphere. Second, I was able to record the show I wanted to watch again on a small SD card. And the card can also store songs you may have on your office or home computer. Third (no one reading this will benefit from this as much as I do), but I can use it when plowing a field with my tractor. . I just place an external magnetic antenna on top of my tractor cab and I can listen to any of my favorite stations that I've programmed into the device. And although the place where I have the radio in the cab of my tractor is in an awkward place, in the tractor there are no suitable places to install it, like in my car or pickup truck) the nifty little remote control, that comes with this radio makes it very easy to change channels and use other functions. (See the manufacturer-supplied product list for a full list of features.) Fourth, it's MUCH EASIER to download favorite channels than my Skydock (which was a problem), and if you want to add or remove channels from your favorites list, it's easy. I can't comment on the battery life, but the small lithium battery that comes with this device lasted over an hour one day while sitting in my garden enjoying a nice day outside. I suspect the radio will last all day without charging. Eventually I was so impressed with this device that I bought a second one to give to my elderly father-in-law. I also bought him a docking station to connect this radio to, which is used in his room at the nursing home where he now lives. his docking station through a window on the roof of the one-story house he lives in. Before gifting this to my father-in-law I tested it at my home first and since my windows face south I was able to just put a small antenna on top of the window seal and it had a good view of the satellite that is broadcasting the programs. All in all, this radio gives me a lot more flexibility than my previous laptop and is easy to use and set up. and creating a second SirisXM account was easy with this device and my 86 year old father-in-law finds it easy to use too. Now I can use my SiriusXM subscription almost anywhere I go, even on a big farm tractor.
