I am new to cutting but modified my Sherline 2000 with a cooling system because people on the forums said it would extend the life of my bit and machine and also give smoother cuts make . I've also seen larger professional factories using it, so this should be the right solution. I had no idea what to expect from cutting fluid and this was the first fluid I bought. I was very careful at first and mixed it in the exact ratio (8:1) while wearing rubber gloves and safety goggles. But now, after drinking a whole gallon, I just mix it up in the approximate ratio and apply it to my hands and arms. At first I thought it caused skin irritation, but that was just in my head. It will sting a little if splashed in the eyes. I just rinse well with fresh water and get back to work. I'm buying a second gallon after my new grinder has run about 30 hours. I have no idea where nine gallons went with such a small mill and setup. I think it just evaporates. When it dries it leaves a very light, sticky, oily residue that wipes off easily. I was afraid that the mixture of oil and WATER would cause rust on the bare steel, but surprisingly it didn't. This is science. When I'm done with the grinder, I just leave the spritz and excess spray on. It seems to protect the metal. If I don't cut for several days, I wash the dry residue the next day. In any case, I would never mill without it, so I have no idea if the parts would be worse without it. All my cuts are super shiny even when I cut 1" thick aluminum with a 1/8" end mill. A powerful jet of this coolant keeps the cutting path clean so I don't have to watch the machine to blow off chips or manually inject lube. I keep some in a spray bottle and spray it on the bits while I drill on the press. I used WD-40 in the past, but the bit and metal get very hot. With this sweat, teeth and metal stay damn cold. I love this product and am about to order another gallon. Um, I'll take two. The disappearance is the only thing stopping the work.
