Review on πŸ’ͺ Enhanced Performance NVME Adapter with Heat Sink for M.2 NVME SSD to PCIE 3.0 X16 Expansion Card by Glenn Rodgers

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good option to add an NVME drive to a system without a free M.2 slot.

This is a really good option for adding an NVME drive to an existing system that doesn't already have an empty slot. It is worth noting that NVME drives are usually connected to PCIe x4 (4 lanes) and this adapter supports PCIe3 (version #3). Version 4 drives should work and could even work on PCIe4 depending on the interfaces, it's basically a simple device/channel card. It also means that depending on where you connect to the motherboard, you may have dedicated, shared, or even reduced bandwidth. It's also worth noting that the x8 and x16 references refer to the connection to the motherboard, not the drive itself. Again, m.2 nvme devices are x4 connected anyway. An indication as there is a 1 star review where the reviewer is simply misinformed or had unreasonable expectations. It's just a temporary device. If this doesn't work, the problem is most likely with the motherboard, the firmware (BIOS/(U)EFI) or the operating system.
