Review on 🍷 Mathus Blade-Style Corkscrew by Peugeot by Shaun Helm

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well made, makes a great gift, blades almost too slippery

A great talking point for any wine lover, this blade-shaped corkscrew is a must-have if you've ever picked a cork in a bottle. The screw is of good weight. to it and just looks great, although you might be wondering what the notch at the base of the handle or the slot in the scabbard (both decorative) is for. It comes in a luxury cardboard box, making this corkscrew a great gift for any wine lover, and it works really well too. Many of the bladed propellers I have tried have suffered from one or more of the following problems: 1) rough blades 2) misaligned blades Peugeot is the only one that does not have any of these shortcomings. The blades are perfectly aligned and slide smoothly into the cork on both sides. However, the smoothness is also one of two small flaws that make this product less than ideal: 1) The blades are almost too smooth. They feel covered and while they go in easily, they also pull out too easily when you tug. Many of the flat blade screws I've used take no more than a half turn when pulling out before the cork comes out, it takes a full turn or more, or you have to push the screw back in. Either way, you'll need to stop and retune. at least once in the middle of the movement2) No foil cutter. Some blade screws have sharpened blades so you can also use them as a foil cutter, or the scabbard has a foil cutter. This one doesn't have either. Granted the ones with sharpened blades are poor foil cutters so maybe that's a nitpick, but I've always felt that there's no need to use multiple tools to do one thing, although I'm very happy with my purchase and Consider this one of the best corkscrews to own.
