These collars are great. I used one for my 38lb boston terrier. They correct lead tension almost instantly and can be used as a quick and effective "no" with a small pull. They're not cruel, although people who don't know them might assume they are. The one I use for my Boston is a little stronger than the one I just bought here for my Chiviny (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix). The Guardian Gear 14 Inch Dog Collar offers excellent value for money. The rubber pen tips are a bit annoying but seem to stay put. However, if you don't put the collar on and off when you put it on the dog's head, you will have to remove the two rubber tips when you slide the pins off the adjacent link. The more durable collar I have doesn't seem to need springs to hold the collar together or to cushion the pins. However, this other collar costs about $30 more. Otherwise the collar works great. These types of collars may take some time to get used to, but they are an invaluable learning tool and can save the relationship between overzealous dogs and frustrated owners. Or they simply teach your dog to walk off-leash. I am very happy with the collar; The quality is good and the value is exceptional.
