Works well on Mac but has some rough edges

This actually works as advertised on the Mac and the video quality of the finished transfer was as good as the original VHS tape. It also has software specially designed to transfer data to Mac. This isn't as necessary as in Windows since you can only do it with the broadcast hardware and various applications that are already widely used in the Mac video world. However, the included "Aver Studio" app makes it so easy that even a person with no equipment can do it. You'll go through a few basic options for the format you want to use for the broadcast, and when you start broadcasting, you're presented with a video and audio monitor so you can see where you are, as well as some head and tail cropping tools . . Clip directly in the app before finally saving it. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that while the software looks quite sleek on screen, it conveys a kind of prime-time, unprepared vibe with strange command logic and very limited documentation. I suspect it will take 2 or 3 tries before you get it right. There were also two specific issues: a) The Mac software in the box will not install on any Mac OS later than 10.8 or 10.9, meaning it is at least 3 or 4 years out of date. After some searching on their site I found a download that works with El Capitan (10.11) and Sierra (10.12), but I was pretty much alone working on it. b) An error occurred when transferring clips from a VHS tape where after about 15 minutes the audio I was following became distorted with bursts of noise that progressively got worse to the point that after about 25 minutes became unreadable. Much to my surprise, the bug did NOT affect the audio quality of the final translation (which was fine), so it was more of a transmission monitoring inconvenience than a serious bug. However, it was quite unsettling. (One caveat: I haven't tested this with other tapes or recorders, so it might have been an odd bug with the tape I was transferring). I think it was the best choice for those who use Mac.
