Compact, portable and fast!

Compact, portable and fast. As a result I got three pieces, one of each color. One was for my wife to help her back up her laptop more often and two were to provide additional storage for my Hades Canyon Nuc and a portable backup drive for me. I attached them to the body with 3M velcro so I could quickly detach them and plug them somewhere else. Each packs a 1TB SSD, all made in different years by different manufacturers (Samsung, Crucial, and VD). Others have complained about the SSD mismatch, but I haven't had any issues at all. As a side note, I've also used them for small 256GB SSDs, again for data transfer during setup, and they all fit with no issues either. All of the SSDs I've used were the standard 2280 form factor. I've regularly synced hundreds of gigabytes of data across these drives and haven't noticed any problems. They were very reliable even when online for days or weeks. I've also used them on Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) computers with no problem. Given that M.2s are known to run quite hot (especially NVMe), I consider this a feature :P. Performance was great too! There is a measurable difference between connecting to a USB 3.0 port and a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port. However, this speed measurement used a synthetic workload. I doubt you'll notice a difference when you actually transfer the files as it comes with an additional overhead. Last note. The first case I got was gray and ran smoothest when unplugged. The black and silver ones I got a few months later feel like they will get stuck when unplugged. Whether this is due to a general change in the production process, different batches or is directly related to the finish of the rims, I cannot say.

  • Hard Drive Accessories
Cons
  • Big and Bulky
