Review on Sony X95J Inch Compatibility XR65X95J by Vincent Lott

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Somewhat disappointed after a long wait

I got the first one about 3 weeks ago and immediately noticed the uniformity of the dark screen, blurry mainly in the menu. In the real world, local dimming makes dark screen uniformity less noticeable. Then I noticed the grid in brighter scenes like the sky. I later tried to play on my PS5 and there was so much lag in play mode that I couldn't even play on it. So I got an exchange a few days ago that fixed the lag issue in game mode. But blur with black uniformity is still present, if not as obvious, and the grid pattern in brighter scenes is noticeable in many scenes, especially when panning. Another reviewer who bought the same 85-inch size also mentioned haze in his photos. Also, the posts have also mentioned dark screen uniformity issues, so I'm not the only one. At this point I'm wondering if most TVs of this model have screen uniformity issues or if I'm just really unlucky. Now about pluses. I used to have two LG OLEDs and was a little worried about blooming as I'm always watching in a dark room with ambient lights that can be dimmed. With local dimming at maximum, that wasn't a problem for me with live content. Even with a small number of dimming zones and a low contrast ratio due to the anti-reflective coating, the dimming algorithm works very well, keeping the screen dark with very little noticeable blur. I still notice it sometimes, mostly on the menu, but it didn't bother me. I like Google TV as an operating system and the XR's image processing is really good. The only downside to my LG OLED displays that I didn't like was the stuttering when watching movies at 24 fps, which I was sensitive to. The X95J definitely handled movement better, as LCDs are a little less prone to stuttering than OLEDs. I also set the Motion Flow Smoothing to 1. On the LG OLED I had, I didn't use interpolation to smooth the image because I don't like the soap opera effect. The zoom and crisp picture quality feel premium for a TV. The build quality seems really good. Be careful not to smudge the screen as the first one I got had a few fingerprints which I tried to wipe gently with a soft cloth and some water which Sony tells you and it seems that they have been removed Anti -Reflective coating. I think the cost of the TV is too high for what you get in the X95J compared to the competition. I think the X90J is the best deal and the best option if you don't need an 85 inch screen. Ultimately if I didn't have screen uniformity issues I would rate the TV 4 stars just because I think it's overpriced for what you get compared to the competition, but I still think that Overall it's a great TV and I'd love to keep it.
