The Saturn SL2 intake manifold is made of plastic and for reasons I don't understand the manifold water outlet and bypass port are molded in the same part as the intake manifold. Boiling hot water under pressure, plastic parts, 200,000 miles and seventeen years is not a good combination. This little device, combined with a YouTube video showing how to fix the manifold without major disassembly of the engine, solved the problem and our little Saturn is happily back on the road with apparently a few hundred thousand miles to go. I should point out that the approved type of installation requires extensive disassembly of various engine components. The alternate installation method (which we used) requires great care in cutting out part of the intake manifold while it's still on the engine, and if you cut it incorrectly you'll have to replace the entire manifold (about $250) and then follow that up So the problem with this part is that there is not enough room in the engine bay to remove the manifold without removing the two engine mounts, power steering pump, fuel rail and a number of other parts. But if you (or your friendly mechanic) are very careful, this can save you a lot of time and/or money.
