Comfortable and effective compression stockings

Due to an old shin injury my doctor recommends that I wear a compression stocking on that leg to prevent edema and stasis dermatitis. I appreciate that TruForm makes a wide variety of styles (soft top / dot top, short leg / long leg, open toe / closed toe, white / beige / black). I'll likely be wearing these or similar for life so it's important to have something that fits, not something that's "Close".With size 14 feet I'm limited to open-toe, which is okay but I do have to carefully adjust so that the end doesn't roll under my foot when putting on a sock over the stockings. Naturally I totally ignored the instructions and inserts the first time I got these and found them to be something of a pain to put on, but once I actually bothered to read the well-explained process on the insert card they're super easy to wear. TruForm also makes "donning devices" - special grip gloves, and wire forms to pre-stretch the stocking while you put your foot in, then draw the form out - so good adaptations for people with limited mobility or dexterity. As far as effectiveness, they're fantastic! I can wear this stocking all day, standing - doing yard work - sitting - anything. It's very comfortable and does an excellent job of eliminating my moderate swelling in that leg. I've only been wearing them about 3 weeks, and I bought 4 stockings to rotate so that's only about 5 uses apiece - so I can't yet speak to how long they'll last. But so far they're not showing any signs of wear or loss of compression.Something I'd like to see on TruForm's website is something to make product selection a little easier - able to filter down by certain criteria, e.g. "I need stockings for: DVT prevention / moderate swelling / severe swelling. My knee to floor height is: XX inches. My US shoe size is: XX." - then display all appropriate products available. As it is now, you start by looking for a product - then filter down by compression & size, which you don't really know until you consult other charts to see what those should be. Plus I just by luck found the "Size 12.5 and larger use open-toe stockings" in fine print. It took far more research than should be necessary, to identify the products you want.

Pros
  • Use for extensive sitting or standing, travel, pregnancy, post surgery recovery, improved circulation
Cons
  • The knee-high length may not be appropriate for those with more severe vein issues or varicose veins
