Unglazed Customizable Tile Coasters - love them for the ink and paint

I love this set. The coasters come in a sturdy box with a foam insert so they were all in good condition and not dusty. I wish they had more (well they do but the ones that were available on the main list) to be honest I could draw them all day. It can be worked on, but when finished it looks like a finished work of art. The first thing to note is that these tiles are UNGLAZED which means they don't have that. glossy surface and it also means that any product you apply to it will be absorbed by the ceramic instead of "floating" on the surface. Therefore, depending on the medium you choose, you may want to refill these coasters first. I used alcohol ink (marker and ink) and soaked the ink into the ceramic, but it also blended well when making different color combinations. I was surprised that I actually prefer unglazed coasters because it was a good surface for marking. I may have primed a few of these to make working with different materials (like acrylic crayons, colored pencil, etc.) a bit easier. Haven't tried it yet but plan on putting some watercolor primer on them as well and see if I can do some watercolors. Since they are unglazed it's a good idea to give them a final coat of some kind of finish/varnish. I use water-based Varathane for all alcohol (and sometimes acrylic) inks, so that's my recommendation. But there are many different acrylic based sprays and other coatings on the market that are easy to get, inexpensive, easy to apply, and look beautiful once dry.
