I have been drawing as a hobby since I was a child. For the last ten years I've mostly stuck to digital art, but every now and then I prefer art with physical media. I have another set of these pens and they are very similar to each other. While I prefer charcoal as a pencil base, I appreciate the fact that drawing with charcoal is a lot less messy (this should be taken into account if you revisit this and charcoal). I drew the sketch shown in two sittings and both times I only had pencil lead marks on my fingers. A light hand wash made sure of that. Whilst even handling my charcoal pencils and pencils requires meticulous hand washing and wiping down the surfaces the pencils and pencils have touched. Back to my sketch: I used just over half of the pencils in this set. I sketched the rough outlines of the landscape with 2H and HB pencils and blurred the 2H for the sky by tapping over the clouds with the eraser. Then I just kept drawing, shading and sketching until the scene had the depth I needed. I'm outlining all of this to make one point: this set is balanced. There aren't so many types of pencils that you'll waste time picking one, but there are more than enough to make your art really popular. As I paint sporadically you can see that I lack technique, but I feel I've done a good job with the depth and tone of my drawing here. If I can make the doodle so beautiful, imagine what a skilled artist can do with these pens. out of your league. For those unfamiliar with this type of pencil, one missing feature should be noted: they DO NOT have an eraser. So if you're buying this for someone who's just getting into pencil art, whether it's yourself or someone else, you might want to pick up some rubber and resin erasers. If you're using them in the same context as I did in my hand drawn doodle, I would also suggest smearing the chopsticks along with these pencils. Overall I am very happy with these pens. My only criticism of them, as with other drawing pencils, is that they are sharpened differently than in the box. Instead of the wooden part of the pencil tapering linearly towards the barrel, the wooden part towards the lead tapers with a curve. This makes it very difficult to use the lead side of the pencil, which I often do. So I sharpened most of my pencils to make the sides of the lead easier to use.
