Review on Stitching Harmony: Crafting a Better World Through Knitting by Dawn Fischer

When I received Knitting for the World: Making the World a Better Place, stitch by stitch, I expected the book to be smaller. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the book not only includes patterns for knitted charity items, but also stories of how they came to be, useful tips on how to contribute to charity work, and some contact information for charities associated with a specific cause are. Knitting patterns are written clearly and understandably. There is a helpful index at the end of the book that explains not only the stitch abbreviations but also the various techniques and textures used. There are also links to websites where you can get started with charity and philanthropy models. I was pleased to see my favorite pattern resources listed. Overall, I would recommend this book to any knitter who wants to make crafts for charity. I originally bought the book because it was cheaper than buying the two templates I was looking for separately. Then I found out that it has more templates than expected. I have to say I'm excited about this, as are some of my friends I work with as we all volunteer for various charities. Our local Humane Society has some lovely kittens and dogs that will love the Adopt Me pattern from the book. :-) Definitely my "must have" -Recommendations for the future!
