This is an optional wireless dog fence. We already had one but we wanted to expand the area for our dogs to roam. We have four large dogs in these systems so the extra space was a plus for us. At first my dogs were hesitant to push the original limit of a device, but now they're starting to realize their limit is bigger due to the addition of a second block, allowing them to venture farther from home to do their own thing. If you decide to use multiple wireless fences, make sure the boundaries overlap by a few feet so dogs can quickly move from one area to another without removing their collar. Also, make sure you are no more than 2 feet from the device when installing or replacing the batteries in the collars so you don't have to hard reset the collars.
