Review on FRAM Extra Guard Engine Air Filter Replacement, Enhanced Engine Protection and Performance for Lexus and Toyota Vehicles, CA10741 by Ari Tanner

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Fewer wrinkles means this FRAM air filter is slightly inferior to the Toyota Denso OEM filter, but at a much lower price.

Compared to the Toyota DENSO OEM filter, which holds them tight with a ruler, the Toyota filter has a third more pleats, which means it captures more dust and dirt before it can Airflow restricted. FRAM = 9 pleats per inch / weighs 130 grams. Toyota = 12 pleats per inch / weighs 160 grams. FRAM filters made in the USA do not have the metal mesh shown in the photo. Those made in Mexico have a metal grille. Since FRAM is sometimes half the price of a Toyota filter and my Prius filter only takes 2 minutes to change, FRAM is still a good deal. So if you're using this cheaper and slightly inferior filter, change it more often than the maintenance schedule says. You should probably change it twice as often to avoid a drop in fuel efficiency. I will still use this filter as it is half the price and takes about 2 minutes to replace on a 2012 Prius. But it is NOT equivalent to the Toyota OEM filter.
