Review on NETGEAR Orbi System RBK50 Renewed by John Carter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as advertised

I bought a Netgear Orbi to replace a competitor's Wi-Fi system that I have had for years. In the past I have had problems with weak signal in my house even though I have repeaters installed at all levels of my house. After reading about Wi-Fi mesh systems, I decided to give the Orbi a try. I was/was pleasantly surprised that it worked very well. Yes, it works better than the old network extenders I had. With the Orbi, I have pretty good whole house coverage with the three piece Orbi system. I bought the RBK50 starter kit plus an extra satellite. I completely cover my two-story house with these three fittings. I even have a Wi-Fi signal in my garage. So I have a feeling this system works as advertised. If I could change something about the system, Orbi would automatically choose which devices to connect to each of Orbi's hotspots. The user also does not have the option to choose which WiFi frequency (5 GHz or 2.4 GHz) their devices can connect to. This is also automatically recognized by the Orbi system. It would be nice if the system user could choose both the WiFi hotspot and the connection frequency. However, the system works perfectly. I've only had minor buffering issues and I believe around 35 devices are connected to the Orbi system. There are "many” smart electrical switches in my house that connect to my WiFi. the reason is therefore 35 connected devices. Orbi does an excellent job at all of these tasks.
