Review on πŸ’§ Efficient Water Flow Control with HFS Electric Solenoid Valve by Lance Harrison

Revainrating 2 out of 5

12v 1/4 is not suitable for compressed air (unless you retrofit)

If you intend to use this valve to turn compressed air on and off it will not do. The 1/4 12V model has 1/4" ports, but the hole inside is tiny (less than 1/8") and doesn't provide decent airflow. It is more suitable for highly compressed gases such as CO2, Argon, etc. in the tank. Quick update so I took it apart which was pretty easy and the outlet on the 1/4" model is 3/32. I thought what the heck and drilled it down to 3/16. The valve still works and gave me enough airflow for my application to take it apart. You remove the top nut, remove the spool, then the solenoid's metal shaft unscrews from the brass body, revealing a hole. All you have to do is drill it onto the rod using a drill or router. You could drill it a little more than 3/16, but you run the risk of not sealing it properly. With its milling, it easily gave me enough airflow to run my mist cooling system.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
