I was a little hesitant to buy these two because there were a couple of reviews saying people get a used straightener and something about it getting hot. I received both brand new. The max for them is 450 and I agree that they get very hot, but personally I find that the hotter they are the faster the hair straightens, especially on people with thin hair. I have thin hair so I increased it to 350 and it worked well for my hair. I have no complaints about any of them. I also recommend applying a heat protectant spray or oil before ironing. I've used both irons twice so far and they both do their job very well. I would definitely recommend both
