The push button comes with putty which needs to be kneaded to form a small flat surface that fits onto the button face like an inverted mushroom with a 3/4 inch stem. Press the putty against the shank button and leave for a minute to allow the putty to adhere to the button. While holding the putty, give it a sharp tug and the OEM knob will come straight out. There is no need to disassemble the entire wooden panel and remove the entire switch.
