First of all, the screens on this thing are just beautiful. 3.5-inch OLED panels with the same resolution as the Vive Pro (HTC contracts with Samsung and uses the same panels). The optics are amazing. Anti-SDE - This thing is a game changer. SDE drove me crazy on my old HTC Vive. Samsung built the HMD with technology specifically to combat SDE, and that makes a big difference. SDE hasn't completely disappeared, but it's much less noticeable. In fact, the only downsides to the Odyssey+ are the controllers and tracking. Tracking - The Odyssey+ uses inside-out tracking, meaning no external sensors like the Rift and Vive. Instead, two cameras are used for tracking, which are located on the front of the HMD. This works fine 95% of the time and the head tracking is near perfect, however the controllers lose tracking when they are out of the camera's field of view e.g. B. along the waist and above/behind your head. this makes games like Beat Saber a bit disappointing. I wish Samsung/Microsoft had developed an additional external tracker. The Vive is still the tracking king with Lighthouse sensors, but the Odyssey+ is just as good as the dual-sensor Rift setup, but those blind spots are annoying as hell for controller design. - Since it uses WMR and should work well with both the Rift and Vive markets, the controllers have a Vive-ร la Vive-style touchpad and a Rift-style joystick, which makes the controllers a bit unwieldy and the LED ring that HMD used to track the controllers are up front and feel a little flimsy, overall the controllers are good but not at all like the Rift Touch. I'd say it's better than the Vive Wand but worse than the Rift Touch. Comfort - Unfortunately not as comfortable as the Rift or Vive, even the standard Vive is more comfortable. Samsung used a halo headband and you end up putting most of the weight of the HMD on your forehead. This has several major disadvantages: 1, the face foam that comes with it is not enough for most users and there will be a noticeable shine around it. Corners of the eyes down to the cheeks/nose. 2, Heaviness on forehead can cause headache/discomfort. But the good thing about this design is that my cheeks don't hurt after a long session and I can put it on and take it off much easier and faster than a Rift or Vive. Overall I like my Odyssey+, it has an amazing picture and the same resolution. like Vive pro for a few hundred cheaper. Since I play sims with HOTAS, which are sedentary games, I chose better image quality over better tracking, and I like the Odyssey+ display, higher resolution + anti-SDE is the winner.
