I bought this a few years ago, it works great. We have tons of junk mail and other personal information that needs to be destroyed. Our problem is that we overdid it. Towards the end of his life he began to slow down, got rid of the smell and started making noise. Since I'm a handy guy who likes to take things apart and fix things, I disassembled the device. I found that during our re-grind we overheated one of the bearings in the electric motor which in turn fused the bearing to the motor shaft. I was able to disassemble the parts and was overhauling the engine when I accidentally broke the bearing and its bracket. I've been looking for a bearing to replace it to no avail. It's cheaper to buy a new device. At the same time, it would still work if we respected the load limit of this chopper. All internal parts and gears are made of metal, unlike many others that use a lot of plastic. We will be buying another one of these (I will have extra parts from the old one to keep it going for the foreseeable future).
