I have oversized tires on my Jeep Wrangler. So when I tried to use the Thule trunk I couldn't detach it to get into the trunk. The strut actually hit the tire and I couldn't get it out of the way. This product solved that problem. It's hard work - much harder than I expected. I installed it in my hitch with the second hole, so I had to move the anti-vibration piece around with a chisel and rubber mallet. I bought a threaded Heninger 6001 Advantage SportsRack Hitch Lock to keep the hitch extension from being stolen. It's a great product too. I had to lubricate the bolt with light grease and it went in easily. I also had to put some lube on the bike rack so it slides easily into the hitch extension. I use the outermost bike rack hole, which gives me about 8.5 inches of extension. The product is well made and does not wobble thanks to the anti-wobble element. I highly recommend this product to extend the hitch for use. with bike stand.
