Review on πŸ”’ Secure Your Trailer with Trimax THP2XL Keyed Alike Trailer Door Lock - Pack of 2 by Steve Hardy

Rust and corrosion are a big issue with this lock

I live in Colorado and purchased this product to secure the rear and side doors of an enclosed cargo trailer that I own and store outside. I also use this trailer to drive on wet roads where the DOT applies a magnesium chloride solution to prevent icing in the fall and winter. After a short period of storage and inactivity (about 45 days) I noticed a serious rust and corrosion problem. It was so bad that I couldn't turn the keyhole to remove the lock that locked the doors of my cargo trailer. I was literally locked in my own trailer even though I had the key to the lock. I had to get out of the way and return home to get some penetrating solution and a hammer to unlock the latch mechanism. Very disappointed with this product. While it's sturdy and thick, I can't risk being locked in my own trailer for corrosion. BTW, based on the design of this lock, ICE is also an issue (unless you have a heat source handy to melt the frozen water getting into the latch). I contacted support and was disappointed with the level of service I received given the cost of this product. Since then I no longer use the Trimax THP2XL door lock and have bought another lock that does not rust.
