This is a lightweight sealed container. However, it loses a point for not being a true vacuum seal. There is a button on the top edge of the lid that needs to be pressed when the lid is placed on the base. This button allows you to remove trapped air from the container when the lid is lowered; However, this only creates a "vacuum" if someone tries to lift the lid without pressing the button to let air back into the container. This button does nothing to reduce the air pressure inside the jar other than venting it when the lid is lowered. In this case the container is resistant to being opened if the button is not pressed and contains either loose coffee or coffee bags. The self-venting airtight coffee bag in this container is sealed really well. Just don't expect it to provide a true vacuum seal, like actively evacuating air from a container. The 1 pound container is quite large and might be a problem for someone with arthritic hands. I usually have to move it when it's more than 1/3 full; but taking the lid off is not that hard.
