I fell off my mountain bike and bumped my elbow pretty hard, pretty swollen. I had to go to the emergency room in Kaiser for an X-ray and then to the orthopedist again. Small fracture and bursitis. The cost of my co-payments and x-rays was $160. Ordered KALI elbow and knee pads. The cost was $160. Yes, the universe has a sense of humor. The knee pads and elbow pads are SUPER comfortable. After a few pedals, you won't even notice they're on. The rubber pad in the cuff keeps them in place well when pedaling. The airflow is very good. I've ridden in warm but not hot weather and they seem to be breathing normally. Don't think they get too hot in the summer. Once, at very low speed, I landed squarely on my knee, the cushion stayed in place and I felt nothing. Can't yet confirm the high speed impact protection and haven't tested the elbow pads yet, but so far so good. They are relatively short. They don't offer as much shin or forearm protection as some of the bulkier downhill pads, but are great for heavier pedaling. In fact, they're so comfortable I wear them, so that's the biggest compliment.
