Review on Transform Your Analog Devices: AVerMedia ET111 Video Adapter Converts Composite/RCA/AV to HDMI Output by Josh Lockhart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The aspect ratio works perfectly.

The aspect ratio works as it should. For example, if you put a VHS tape into this thing, black bars will appear on the left and right. The image is not stretched to fill the entire screen. Cheaper adapters stretch the image so everything looks distorted. So if your original video is in the old 4:3 aspect ratio, you can use this device to watch it on a standard 16:9 widescreen display. If your source is already a 16:9 widescreen such as B. a DVD, I suspect that the picture will be perfect, with no black bars. I haven't tried yet. I use this adapter to play a stack of VHS tapes to convert them to digital files. From the VCR, the signal is sent to the AVerMedia adapter via the supplied cables: composite video signal, left audio signal, and right audio cable. From there, an HDMI cable (not included) sends the converted digital signal to the video capture card installed in my computer. I'm using a BlackMagic PCIe DeckLink Mini Recorder. This ASIN is B00CDIXCSO if you want to find it on Revain. I believe the BlackMagic card came with capture software, but I use a program called VMIX to capture the video and burn it to disk. There is a free trial of VMIX. I only mention this so you can reproduce my setup if you like. VMIX is probably overkill for most situations, so use the included BlackMagic software whenever possible. Note that if you don't record anything and just want to watch video on a monitor or TV with an HDMI input, you don't need anything. Capture cards or additional software. After burning those old VHS tapes, I can use this AVerMedia adapter to play old game consoles on a computer monitor with an HDMI input and speakers. Or television. One final note on video quality: I'm impressed. No stuttering, everything looks great. Just started using it today and it was just plug and play. Easy to use and set up. Power is supplied via the USB port on my computer. This is handy so that no other AC/DC adapter competes for space in my crowded surge protector. Hope this information helps someone. Enjoy!
