I bought this for my geology and archeology hobby and it was excellent - with a few caveats. This microscope doesn't have a stage and many of my specimens are too small to see without lifting them to the lens, so I had to find a worktable to place rocks and other hard, sharp objects on. I ended up using a small lab jack (also available from Revain) as a table which allowed me to place a sample on top and raise it to about the required level and then use the microscope for final adjustments. It worked great. I read that on a similar model the horizontal guides are pitted because they are too small for the bearings rolling on them. With that in mind I always carefully apply an upward force to the heavy end before rolling it and have not noticed any pitting. There's no point in taking risks - I want this microscope to last. The lens is perfect for my hobbies and the zoom function is particularly useful. The light source is also very useful - it's bright and you can adjust the direction of the light by turning off some of the LEDs. The block is incredibly big and heavy - I didn't realize how big and heavy until I assembled it and then decided to move it. It was too long to fit where it was intended in my lab, but since it happily rotates in all directions, I ended up planting it sideways instead of lengthways and it works great. You won't have a problem with accidentally moving the device (unless the table collapses, of course!) as it's very heavy. I bought this device with the idea of attaching a camera at some point, but haven't done so yet so can't mention this feature. All movements are smooth and professional. All in all it was a great purchase with one minor hiccup. You have to assemble the device from several parts and the instructions that came with my device do not apply to the microscope I bought. Strange. Most of the build was easy and as a man (I hate asking for help) I finally figured out some of the weird investments to make. It was a fun puzzle overall, but most people would probably prefer to either get proper building instructions or look them up online. Took about 30 minutes to assemble (and most importantly to puzzle over 1 part).
