Revainrating 3 out of 5

3 out of 10 bulbs don't work

Yes I flipped the bulbs to check polarity, 3 failed while the other bulbs worked fine. 3 stars only because of the 7.54 deal, the ones that actually worked are bright and adjustable with a rheostat. However, they were advertised for the 2004 Sequoia. I understand that designations like these relate to the Revain car selection process, so they don't fit as well as they can be 'made' to fit where they are close enough to match, though the pair needs to be turned as opposed to OEMs which have a full fit. . Let's just say they're a little uncomfortable. I didn't want to be one of those unfortunates who didn't verify the work before returning the dashboard (IP) only to find that half of them didn't work. So here's what I did. My car has three connectors per IP which most people unplug to install bulbs. I noticed that the main wire bundle was attached further into the dash cavity with these three ends. Using a shutter release tool, I loosened the main bundle's plastic retainer, which allowed me to pull the IP further while keeping the three connectors connected. Let's just say I put in a lightbulb and immediately see if it works. What I did was remember which side the bulb is on (with the number stamped on it) and the twist lock socket (written on the back) for reference. I noticed that the letters on all the other cartridges in the dash were reversed (upside down) so I made sure the new ones were too. Then I guessed and used the side of the lightbulb with the number stamped on it (the other side was alphanumeric) and inserted the lightbulb. The odds are 50/50. Some LED bulbs require a bit of force to wedge into the socket, even the ones they came with and even after use I used a small dab of Dialectical Bulb Grease. Luckily, the LED lit up the first time, so there was no more guesswork from then on. I had three LEDs that did not light up. Yes I flipped them just to make sure the bulbs didn't have random polarity snaps and checked by inserting known good bulbs into the IP sockets. The 70% correct operation rate is very impressive. However, the ones that worked were VERY bright (too bright for my wife) AND dimmable, at least in my car. The problem with dimming I bP bulbs is that the remaining bulbs in the radio/HVAC panel dim too much. . I haven't thought about it. Now I need to find more LEDs so that all panel LEDs can be dimmed evenly across the board.
