I live in a colder climate in PNW. I tested the temperature rise on a 3 gallon bucket containing 2 1/2 gallons of water. This amount of water fills the bucket high enough to completely cover the shielded portion of the immersion heater. Garage temp was 55, water temp 60 and heated 2 1/2 gallons to 140 in 35 minutes. So a little faster than 2 degrees per minute. I use it to heat water for washing cars and washing hands. Usually 20-25 minutes will make the water warm enough. UPDATE: I don't know what the shutdown temp is, but I left it on for almost two hours today and thankfully didn't overheat. The (plastic) bucket had an outside temperature of 170 degrees and the water temperature was between 169 and 172 degrees on an infrared laser thermometer. Sure, the water was too hot for bare hands, but it didn't overheat or boil.
