Much of what it cracked to be.

I have used this unit on a number of occasions and have mostly enjoyed it. I haven't tried the "grater/zest" insert simply because it's all plastic and (in my not-so-humble opinion) doesn't look like it's going to do the job well. The basic design of the product is solid, and the handle for attaching the bowl is convenient. Works conveniently and reliably with multiple sized bowls. The inserts don't seem to vary much in thickness and don't have a lot of control detail, but are pretty good for slicing radishes, carrots, cucumbers, etc. for salads. The safety handle works well with tomatoes, potatoes, etc, provided you've already flattened one side of the vegetable (I usually do about 6 or 7 strokes then start with the handle. The blade is nice and sharp, keep your finger out). By the way, if you stick to it at all. The tape that was on the blade tends to leave some glue on the blade when removed, a little rubbing alcohol will remove that in no time. Overall the product is exactly what it should be: an inexpensive, functional tool for those who don't want to invest in an expensive mandolin. A great buy for beginners, home cooks and students alike.

Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
