I am pleased with the construction of the slicer, very strong plastic with non-slip notches which help with stability. My only complaint is that it has to be about 1-2 inches longer to span the width of my Dutch Oven without wobbling at the edge. The non-slip notches span a distance of about 93/4 inches and the top of my Dutch Oven is 10 inches, so cutting potatoes for things like the scalloped potato and ham dish is a little more difficult. I have used this unit on a number of occasions and have mostly enjoyed it. I haven't tried the "grater/zest" insert simply because it's all plastic and (in my not-so-humble opinion) doesn't look like it's going to do the job well. The basic design of the product is solid, and the handle for attaching the bowl is convenient. Works conveniently and reliably with multiple sized bowls. I am a 62 year old bachelor and have cooked all my life, back when I was helping my mother. She used a paring knife, but I never mastered it. When I moved here to Utah, my son's girlfriend threw away my old food slicer. I ordered this when she moved in and I took over the cooking.
