Review on Securely Attach Your Garmin Nuvi with i.Trek Sticky Mount (Black) by Richard Counts

Good product but needed minor modifications for my purpose

I bought an I.Trek adhesive mount to mount a Garmin DVR on my truck's windshield. My experience with the i.Trek mount is only with this camera. I can't speak of using this mount with any other device. Shipping was fast and the mount arrived in good condition. I have two cars that use a Garmin DVR so this is the second of two i.Trek adhesive mounts I have purchased. The adhesive on the i.Trek is very aggressive, so users should carefully plan the position of the mount before removing the back panel as the mount is very difficult to remove once it is in place. If you find that the mount needs to be removed from your windshield, the sticky part is probably damaged. You can use 3M double-sided tape from your local auto parts store to reattach the bracket. The strength of the adhesive ensures a secure fit. The area where i.Trek is to be installed must be clean. I used Wal-Mart 98% alcohol to clean my windshield before applying i.Trek. An alcohol swab is not supplied with the holder. The all-plastic i.Trek consists of a bonded-on windshield mount, a "gland” and a coupler with two balls, one at each end of the short stem. The balls at the end of the plastic rod are sized to fit snugly in the mounting slot on top of my Garmin DVR. Inserting the ball into the camera mount requires some force, but the tight fit ensures the camera is held steady. The ball at the other end of the stem is smaller and fits into a slotted socket on the bracket that attaches to the windshield. The slotted bushing on the windshield mounting bracket is threaded to accept the flare nut. inch Once the ball is in place, the swivel nut can be tightened to ensure a secure fit to the windshield. Since I use a Garmin DVR in two cars, from time to time I have to remove the camera and install it in the second car. means of transportation. I installed the windshield mount in both cars. In addition to switching the camera between two cars, I also take the camera off at night to reduce the temptation of people who can see the camera to break into my car to get it. When removing the camera, I leave the ball mount attached to the camera and remove the camera and ball joint as a unit from the windshield mount piece. I do this because the gland allows the mount to be adjusted, but the gland on top of the camera does not. In my case, it took too much pressure to insert the ball into the windshield mount. I worry that repeated insertion and removal will eventually cause the windshield to crack. To solve this problem, I used a small belt sander to reduce the size of the ball that fits in the windshield mount. If you decide to try this modification, use the least aggressive sanding belt, remove a small amount of material, and check the fit frequently. Without a belt sander, you can do this modification by hand, but it will take a little longer. The smaller size allows me to insert the ball into the windshield mount with less effort, and the swivel nut allows me to tighten the mount enough for the camera to be stable. Overall, if a person has to leave their device in the car, the i.Trek mount works very well. For me, the tightness in the nest on the windshield was a problem.
