I used over 100 of these screws of various lengths to repair a 30 year old cedar fence that was the consistency of a cheese log. its wide spiral design is sufficient to connect two parts without tension or back pressure. They are also resistant to overdrive stripping like traditional deck screws. None of the heads were ripped off or chipped, including a 3 inch size that was hammered into a pressure treated frame. This was not the result of my mechanical shocks. since we were in a hectic hurry under the threatening headwind. This is just an excellent product. I was also able to easily loosen a few screws from a previous repair that were rust free! After a few months outdoors, and reuse them as if they were new. There is also no need to pre-drill wood or PVC trim as the drill bit simply sticks to it. Just start slowly with a little pressure and you're spot on. Don't be afraid of the square drive. For a few dollars to buy a #2 square shank drill bit, you'll experience far less drill bit slippage and more repeatable positive results. You won't want to use anything else.
