I wanted to try our safety razors as I've never been happier with cartridge razors - they quickly fall under the power of my beard, sometimes not even enough for a full shave before they start pulling more than cut. The cost is also very high; If I can only get one shave per cartridge it will cost me about $5 per shave. Not good! With a double-edged razor that costs 10 to 20 cents a blade and gives you a better, more comfortable shave? Well, it's pretty hard to beat. Another issue is that I have fairly soft and sensitive skin, so shaving isn't good for me, to say the least. I can honestly say I've never had a less annoying shave in my life. Seriously, that first pass was almost like wiping the stubble. As I went over (and even against) the grain, it was as if most razors went TOGETHER with the grain. In addition to cartridge razors, I have also tried straight razors. I really like them and shaving is not as difficult as people think. The hardest part for me is sharpening the blades so they are sharp enough for a comfortable shave. My honing skills are simply not (yet) up to date. Once they show up, I'll probably use my direct dial a lot more than I do now. With a good safety razor like the Vulcan, I don't really feel the need to. Try it, you won't regret it!
