Vanguard Endeavor ED 8X42 Binoculars

After reading many reviews on these binoculars which were almost always excellent I decided to buy a pair from the 'Used - Made by Revain' section for less than $190 to buy dollars. . That price was hard to resist. They arrived on time and were brand new to me, in the original sealed packaging. I've compared them to a very similar Vortex Fury 8x42 binocular that doesn't have ED glass but is still a great product. Both have an excellent eye relief of 19-20mm, making them a great choice for eyeglass wearers. Vanguards are slightly smaller and lighter. They feel very good in the hand thanks to the double bridge that allows you to wrap your fingers around the case. The fit and feel of these binoculars is top notch. There is no play in the focus wheel. While my Furies are a little easier to focus with one finger, the Endeavors are almost as good. The attached lens caps are very good. In my opinion, when evaluating binoculars, the most important feature is the image quality. What most people say about Vanguard's sharpness and clarity is true. The ED glass improves the contrast and clarity compared to Vortex glass without the ED glass, although I can't say the resolution is any better than the Vortex, which as I mentioned is a great pair of binoculars. Field of view is good on both pairs, although the Vortex is slightly better in this regard. On Vanguards, image distortion is almost imperceptible. The colors are true, the brightness is excellent. I didn't notice any chromatic aberration, although some reviewers did. They focus to about 8 feet depending on where you set your diopter ring. By the way, the diopter lock function is a great thing. I can't compare them to high-end Zeiss or Leica products, but I recently had the opportunity to test a pair of Zeiss Terra EDs and preferred the Vanguards over them. The Vanguard Endeavor 8x42 is a great choice for bird watchers and other sports enthusiasts. For the price, they simply can't be beat.
