First a little background. I have been involved with computers and programming for almost 40 years. And I've been using programmable remotes since 1986. My wife has Alzheimer's and just can't use the standard Xfinity remote to control our kitchen Vizio TV and Xfinity HD STB. She doesn't even know which red button on the Xfinity remote is supposed to turn the TV and paired set-top box on and off. The red power button on the Xfinity remote says "All on" to control the TV and STB and gets confused when you press the button to turn off two devices! I thought the pinball remote would be the answer, but unfortunately it turned out not to be. These comments refer to the version of Fipper we have: V8. Pinball controls Vizio TV and Xfiinity RNG110 HD STB including power, volume, channels and mute - initial pairing went very well. I only programmed 5 channels in favorites for her as she only watches those 5 channels regularly and I wanted to make it easy for her to scroll through the least number of channels otherwise she would be very confused. The problem with pinball is twofold: 1). You will need to hold down the channel up or down buttons longer than usual until the channel appears, whereas on most remotes you just need to "press" the channel up and down buttons or the volume buttons ( or press briefly). But with pinball, if you just "click" or briefly press one of the up or down buttons, a random and unprogrammed channel will appear. All of our HD channels on our Comcast Xfinity cable system have three digits, such as B. their favorite MeTV channel (channel 231 in our system) and they have all been successfully programmed as favorites. It's almost like the CPU sampling rate is too slow for the up/down channel buttons. and 2). It wasn't difficult to program 5 channels as favorites but after saving them and locking the programming you can hold down the up/down buttons until the next channel appears but sometimes it's a channel that has never been programmed as a favorite. Of course, as mentioned before, just a quick press (or "click") on the up or down button will bring up random and unprogrammed channels. I went through all the stages of setting up and programming favorites. at least 6 times (after completely deleting all favorites according to the instructions), strictly following the instructions each time. But every time the results are the same. random and unprogrammed channels that appear when you use the up or down buttons. My wife uses the pinball remote but most of the time she asks me for help with this problem. I wish the review was more positive as we really needed an easy to use and reliable programmable remote control!
