Review on Ubiquiti UF-RJ45-1G U Fiber Multi-Mode SFP Transceiver by Kevin Cheek

TL;DR - Plug & Play. Just make sure you know how to connect to your hardware and turn it on when needed, as some devices may require a new power-on configuration. This product worked great. I wanted to connect my 24-port Unifi PoE switch to my Unifi Security Gateway Pro 4 via fiber optics to free up the 1 Gigabit Ethernet port on the switch. Reading online I was able to use a third party item but all the information said these items are unique in packaging and this product was a duplicate. It was more profitable to buy both than to buy 2 separate devices. The package arrived, I opened it and removed the rubber stoppers from them. Then I removed the rubber plugs from the switch and gateway ports and plugged them in. I connected the fiber optic cable and nothing changed. I was starting to scratch my head as it looked like it was meant to be plug and play, but I needed some details. I then opened up my Unifi network and could see that the switch registered the connection but the gateway did not. After some digging, I found that the gateway had to enable the connection by disabling the ethernet port. Crossed my fingers, switched and committed the change, POOF, my network was now fiber optic connected to the USG Pro4 and everything was working as expected. I now have full access to my 24 ports on my switch and my gateway has a free ethernet port to use on another network if I decide to make this change. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to use 1GB fiber optic connections. and these devices are compatible. Should work with all Unifi devices and possibly other devices as well.
