Failed too soon. for car mounts

The concept of this device is great. It's a fantastic idea to be able to keep the InReach handy, be able to quickly take it off, view it and then put it back on without having to use two hands to reattach it to your pack. Unfortunately, the function is missing. Here's what happened to mine. The first time I tried to remove the InReach from its mount, the hook material detached from the mount attached to the InReach. Since then I've had to make sure my thumb touches the material before taking the InReach off to make sure it doesn't come loose again. After a while this really became a problem, so I modified the line's shackle by actually sewing the hook material onto the shackle. I had to drill a series of small holes around the mount to get the needle and thread through the plastic mount. This worked great as the hook material never came loose again. However, the lifespan of hook and loop material is very short. After using the harness for a summer of hiking, probably less than 25 days, the velcro is very weak and the slightest blow can knock the InReach out of the harness' half shoulder strap. Without the lanyard, he would keep hitting the ground. I need to go back to using the carabiner that originally came with the InReach. More painful to use but much safer.
