Review on Micro Connectors S08-303-IA - Acrylic Internal USB 2.0 Hub with Magnetic Base - Expand your setup with 5 USB 2.0 Ports by John Ford

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It really works, but read these reviews first!

Like many others who have purchased this unit, I was looking for an efficient solution to expand my microITX board's single USB port for a variety of RGB capabilities. The NZXT hub seems to have died out, and I don't trust the random unnamed USB hubs you see everywhere. Luckily, some other people have tested this product and found that it works despite its quirks. My setup: The hub plugs directly into the motherboard USB socket, and I connect two additional USB cables to two devices: one directly to my AMD Wraith. Prism and the other to the Corsair Commander Pro (which is itself a USB hub and works with a Lightning Node Pro and my Corsair power supply's USB port). As everyone says, DO NOT bother connecting a SATA power cable to this unit (didn't even try given all the good reviews here). My CoPro has SATA power and everything seems to be running smoothly. As another reviewer said, the magnet is practically useless. Can't comment on the condition of the LED as I was able to squeeze the unit into an invisible part of my Corsair 280X (hidden cable slot) so I never really need to see it. anyway thing. Can't comment on the efficiency of the USB ports either (I don't know why you need internal USB ports for something like this anyway, but I think it's nice to have them). I'm very glad it worked on the first try. If you want to expand your USB ports, get one! Just don't bother with SATA power!

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Expensive
