I use this "blue tape" all the time on a variety of projects. More recently, I've used this tape on a series of "cat steps" that I cut from 12/4 white pine, covered with low-pile carpet, installed on the wall as "floating shelves," and painted black over the white wall have. I removed the wall, used Sherwin Williams matte black paint and painted 6 steps for my furry friends to climb into my living room. I let the black paint dry, took it off and the painting was perfect and the walls are still white. I didn't remove the paint from the wall under the tape, I didn't have black paint on the wall and the tape stuck and peeled off easily. I've tried the regular versions of this tape and they pretty much fail or the other which is why I'm sticking with the Scotch brand (pun intended). Hope that helps!
