This is a good idea, but the materials are probably poor or assembled incorrectly. I tested it for reverse polarity in both positions. I connected the tester to a NEMA 5-15 to NEMA 1-15 adapter (non-polarized) so I can safely test for polarity reversal. But to my dismay, the red indicator never lit in the reversed and correct position. The red indicator light is completely off. However, the indicator correctly identifies open and correct earth. However. I became suspicious of this tester when I heard a faint ringing in the tester, but I didn't pay attention to it at first. I'm glad I tested it to make sure it's ok. I think I'll just pay a little more for a non-contact voltage detector. But not from the UK. Update: Received a replacement that also didn't recognize the polarity reversal. Do not buy this product, it gives a false sense of security. But a non-contact voltage tester.
