Wasted time and purchase!

Didn't fit in an outlet. When attempting to move and pry this corded tester in the outlet, the outlet broke. I don't recommend this to anyone.

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Minor problems

Color codes are unreadable

This GFCI receptacle and tester has a color coding system that relates to circuit analysis results. There are three colors (R, W, Y) showing the analysis result when the tester is plugged into an outlet. The problem is that the color of the colored dots on the analyzer is unreadable (except for red) without a magnifying glass and perfect lighting.

The ground pin broke but came back.

Not that it received much love and care but after a few uses the ground pin in the socket broke off. But I fished it out and it fit well, so I tried it and it worked. Then I added a drop of super glue and everything was fine. I wish they would make them audible with a non-irritating noise so you don't have to go back and see if you're testing the circuitry (don't tell me the radio is handy because it's small). It will also help you find it if you (well, I) leave it somewhere.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Doesn't stand up to everyday use

I've literally had over a dozen of these. They work great, are easy to read and most importantly they are the easiest I've found to plug into TR (tamper proof) sockets. I'm a home inspector so I use it daily ie over 100 times a day 5 days a week for work. They last a maximum of 2 to 6 months. They're cheap enough, but I carry a few in my bag as I never know when they're going to fail. So good for the homeowner but not so good for professional everyday use.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Simple need, simple solution

This tester works great. As mentioned in a previous review, it's a bit difficult to tell the difference between the white and yellow markings on the label, but it's not that difficult in good lighting conditions. The ability to test GFCI is also a nice addition. To clarify, this is a regular socket tester that can be used on sockets without a GFCI, but it also has an extra button to check if the GFCI is tripping when it should. As someone who doesn't know much about electricity, this helped me…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Very expensive

Slightly disappointing

available First, it works. However, there are two problems, one worse than the other: 1) The end of the fork was blunt, not tapered. Therefore it could not be inserted into the new (probably stiffer) exits I was trying to test. It will push into old sockets that have loosened up a bit with use, but there was no reason to test the old sockets. To get this to work, I had to plug an extension cord into an outlet to test, and then plug the meter into a well-used extension cord. I'll probably plug…

  • Handsfree
Cons

Good idea and bad implementation?

This is a good idea, but the materials are probably poor or assembled incorrectly. I tested it for reverse polarity in both positions. I connected the tester to a NEMA 5-15 to NEMA 1-15 adapter (non-polarized) so I can safely test for polarity reversal. But to my dismay, the red indicator never lit in the reversed and correct position. The red indicator light is completely off. However, the indicator correctly identifies open and correct earth. However. I became suspicious of this tester when I
