Doesn't actually *lock*, just slide in and out like regular backrests.
I bought them for my new expensive pearls that my husband gave me for my birthday. The original backs of the earrings dangled a bit and I was afraid I would lose one. I bought them hoping they would close as written. But the backs of the earrings just slide on and off even if you pinch them on the sides. The only thing that might help is that they are much larger than regular backs, making them easier to fit in your ears. I will return them and keep trying.
