It is very difficult to assess the quality of an average product. I want to be honest and say that 1) my experience can be unique as most of the reviews are very positive AND 2) absolute beginners probably won't notice any problems whereas professionals know how to solve problems themselves and should probably have a grinder too deal with. I didn't fit into those groups so I had some issues with the instruments which otherwise seemed great. Let me start with the good. Excellent quality steel for its price range. You'll have to spend at least twice as much to get thinner steel. The handles fit perfectly and are solid. It is convenient to keep balance for several hours during work. The bit holding tool roll is thick, keeping the tools away from you and you away from the tools. I'd also like to point out that although I've had trouble with half my chisels, the 12 6v tool and the 7 6 splitter tool were as good as any dart I've touched. Less good aspects. The incisors were uneven. A lot of. I'm not sure a carver with ten years of experience would mind, but there will be problems carving for those with less experience. In addition, the bevel was uneven on half of the instruments. 8 required significant sharpening to work directly with poplar. They say don't do this unless you're willing to sharpen them, but I think most would expect a midrange set to be at least sharp. Finally, a SMALL complaint - the plastic protective caps that came with mine were soft, clear (smoky) vinyl that tore instantly. It's not a deal breaker, but the red or orange rugged treads I've seen in pictures from other customers are excellent and offer lasting value. I would definitely risk using their tools again and hope for the best. I'm only disappointed in half the ones I got. I would like to send them back but I can't physically go to the post office at this time and I can probably sort them out. With my water stones and belt, it just takes a long time.
