Review on 12.5 inch Gold Dragon Heritage Edition Carbon Steel Wok Set - Nonstick Stir-Fry Pan with Lid and Spatula - Flat Bottom Traditional Chinese Wok for Electric or Gas Stovetops by Brandon Kraemer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far so good (2 months)

Much better than the Joyce Chen carbon steel woks I bought at Revain last time. This one, along with another cheap carbon steel wok I bought off the streets of Taiwan, rusts very easily (within a week of use). I don't even know why, maybe the steel was paper thin? This Golden Dragon wok is much thicker (but heavier) and still not rusty after 2 months of normal use. I thought it would go that way before a little discoloration showed up, but after speaking to their excellent customer service (who is actually there and responding) I figured it was because I hadn't seasoned (oiled) it enough would have . both initially and each time after washing. So now I lubricate it by heating it after each use and there was no more discoloration. It's a real comfort that my family and I didn't unknowingly consume rust or some other type of flaky finish that some other woks might have. The size is also big for 2 adults and 2 small children. At first I was concerned that it's only 12 inches compared to the 14-inch Joyce Chen, but honestly it looks and feels the same. Will be updated with further developments in the future.

Pros
  • Woks and stir-fry pans
Cons
  • Long delivery time
