New Arrival Aquarium Pumps and Filters

This popped up when I searched "nano skimmer" among many other results. I have a 1980's 29 gallon hex tank that I have dusted off and turned into a corner reef tank. I'm already familiar with the unreliable SeaClone 100, which for a while was the only real option for a cheap, self-pump skimmer. I was half expecting to have to settle for one of the old-fashioned basswood Airstone models, such as the popular one for the BioCube. Although this is a newbie, I relied solely on the other positive reviews on here and took a chance. I was not disappointed. Here's what I like best, in no particular order: 1. PRICE - I mean what can a skimmer in this price range with its own pump complain about? 2. SIZE - Of course, the nano skimmer has to be small, but the unique design of this HOB skimmer doesn't allow it to dangle too much backwards, so to speak. It doesn't do much in the tank either. In an ideal world the pump would be in the hob, like those Aquamaxx skimmers I love so much, but the pump in the tank isn't too bad considering the design of this thing.3. QUIET - This thing is surprisingly quiet, about as quiet as a skimmer can get. I don't hear the gurgling and wheezing that I've learned to live with from other skimmers. You might even be wondering if it works considering how quiet this little skimmer is. BREAK IN - As soon as I plugged it in, the skimming started. A few small tweaks to the shot and I got frothy bubbles right where I wanted them. After about 3 days the microbubbles in the tank disappeared and I got some yellow water in the collection cup (which is more of a collection box for this skimmer). After a week I get mostly dry turkey, which I prefer. Ugly light brown water a little on the bottom of the drip tray with a nice taupe colored scale on the underside of the drip tray lid. Fabulous!
