Review on Stant 14279 Thermostat Degrees Fahrenheit by Brandon Garrett

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It's 195F even though it says 188F on the box. See below.

It's confusing that the box says 188F. Of course, I wanted the 195F, so I almost returned it, but then I did a little research on the discussion forums, and one forum dedicated to Saturn cars says that for the 1429 stunt, "the starting point for the opening 188F and the full is flow is 212F, 195F is a pint. where first all the water is passed through the radiator and the bypass is shut off. That's the right part." So that's the right part for Saturns. I installed it and it works great. Now my sensor reads the ideal operating temperature. So the story ended well, but there were a few problems along the way .It was initially very difficult to install and I had to lightly file the metal "fenders" that hold it in place on each side of the fender to get it to fit.. I don't know if you do the same Problem as I will have because maybe it was because my thermostat cover was not original. Before I knew this car needed a 195F I was a fool and first bought a new thermostat which was already in the body cap (the cap is where the thermostat sits where the hose goes in) so I threw away the 195 before I got the earlier case cover which may have been the original case cover I realized I needed the 195F when ic h went to the discussion board because I found it odd that when I first replaced the thermostat with an Oreily replacement, the car still ran colder than it should. So this 195 was a difficult fit in the case cover I had from Oreily which came with the wrong Temp 85 thermostat. Maybe that's why the 195 didn't fit without a little mod. Also, I was a bit concerned that the design of the wings was slightly different, but not so much that they wouldn't hold up after I filed them down to the right width to accommodate them to screw tight. So you may be facing the same problem as me, since I bought this machine used I think it has already been replaced with the wrong thermostat. Auto parts dealers have the wrong part in their computer. So you could also have the wrong case. Not only was the padding that came with this stunt slightly larger, so I reused the one that came with the Oreilly body. Again, this may be due to the same as described above. I also used some red silicone which makes it easier to hold the gasket in place when installing it on the car. If you are inexperienced, replacing the thermostat is not that difficult. Another thing is to make sure you are using a good socket and ratchet. You don't want to remove screws that are difficult to remove on some vehicles. And if you have the same problem as me, you can use the file. Since other people don't seem to have these issues, I think it's not Stunt's fault, it's the fault of those auto parts dealers. I would highly recommend these 195Fs and the price on Amazon was fair.
