Review on Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for SLR Cameras - Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM by Agata Koczan ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The right product for me, there were no problems.

The L-ka that costs the least, but is still an L-ka. This is an excellent lens for a crop camera. There is no question that the 17-55, 17-85, and 15-85 are superior to the 18-55 in the event that you do not actually require a long angle of view. A little dark, of certainly, but this is not a problem on a nice carcass (ISO / flash). This one is not quite as sharp as the 16-35/2.8, and it is a stop darker and a little narrower at the wide end. However, the price-to-quality ratio is clearly better than the other one. Only when used with a full frame camera does this lens's vignetting and lack of sharpness at the frame's corners become apparent. In this scenario, it is possible that spending more money on a more expensive choice is appropriate (it is also not without these shortcomings, but it copes better with them). Regarding the harvest, absolutely not. To put it simply, it is a delight to experience it, you guys. Both rings operate without a hitch and feel comfortable when worn. Solid in general.

Pros
  • This lens has already received an adequate amount of praise; there is not much more that can be written about it. Both the letter L and the red stripe make their point abundantly clear. The sharpness of the lens, the build quality, and the inclusion of a case round out this package. For a very long time, not even a single speck of dust or a scratch could be found on the surface after being subjected to the elements, such as rain and the impact of falling from a height of growth. Naturally, it is only used after going through the filter. There was not even a single lack of focus. Even when it was pitch black. I am ecstatic with how well the zoom ratio turned out. Does not change size when zooming.
Cons
  • To achieve the desired results with the Canon 50D, a few adjustments were necessary. It is not particularly sharp between apertures 4 and 5.6, but it is sharper than any EF-S. Only with 15-85 can it be compared, and even then, the second range serves somewhat different objectives. My aperture is almost always closed to 8-11 because the range involves use either for landscapes or indoors (of course with a flash), and in this state it is very sharp. The range involves use either for landscapes or indoors. When you need a portrait - at the long end and with the aperture wide open - then ringing sharpness is not necessarily required, and light software is even suitable for the portrait. When shooting macro with a built-in flash (if such perverts exist), there is a problem that arises: due to the size of the lens, it casts a shadow on the lower part of the frame that covers more than half of it. This can be problematic. If this may be considered a downside, then removing the cover once the hood has been screwed on is a pain in the neck =) This issue can be remedied by using a wound filter.
